August 14th at 2pm at Explore Tahoe: An Urban Trailhead join Krissi Russell, author of "On the Trail" for an interactive nature and music program for all ages. Learn about hiking, safety, and trail etiquette. Books are available for sale following the event. Local artist, Gina Stowell will be performing face painting for all ages. Everyone is invited to enjoy an afternoon on the patio at Explore Tahoe: An Urban Trailhead. Admission is Free! Fees for face painting designs will range from $3 to $10 depending on design. Every day at 2pm films and slideshows featuring wildfire history, enviornmental issues, wildlife and tips for protecting your property from the devastation of a catastrophicphic wildfire will be presented FREE to visitors and locals. Happy Trails National Trails Day Event

Explore Tahoe presents "Happy Trails" on June 5, 2010. A variety of guided trail opportunities from interpretive hikes on historic trails, to guided mountain bike rides and kayaking on the water trail. Bird watching will also be available at Taylor Creek with the International Migratory Bird Festival. Tahoe Rim Trail Association will offer trail building opportunities on the new Daggett Summit Trail System in Explore Tahoe's backyard! Shuttle service to the Happy Trail of your choice will be provided upon request. Tara McCarthy, US Forest Service Technician and program leader, presents a power point tour of Heavenly Mountain Resort. The presentation will highlight the geology of the Tahoe Basin, the watershed, wildlife studies and forest management as it relates to the partnership between Heavenly Mountain Resort and the USFS. Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care Executive Director Cheryl Milham tells the heartwarming story of an orphaned bear cub severely burned in a forest fire. The cub was rescued by a firefighter and brought to Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care where it was rehabilitated before being returned to the wild. The book "Saving Lil Smokey" will be available for sale along with a photo DVD of the cubs remarkable journey. This event is FREE and refreshments will be provided. Explore Tahoe: an urban trailhead celebrates National Trails Day June 6th!

On Saturday, June 6th Explore Tahoe will host over 100 volunteers for a groundbreaking ceremony and trail building day to begin construction on 13 miles of new trail for the Tahoe Rim Trail Association. The day's event will begin at 9am with presentations from partnering agencies including The Tahoe Rim Trail, United States Forest Service, State Parks, State Lands, and California Tahoe Conservancy. The event will be staged at the Old Barn in the Van Sickle Bi-State Park directly behind the Heavenly Village under the Heavenly Gondola. Following the opening ceremonies volunteers will be directed to the new trail site and begin work. At 4pm Explore Tahoe will host a volunteer appreciation party at Explore Tahoe visitor center. Cecils Steak and Brew, Wolfgang Pucks, Coldstone Creamery, Driftwood Cafe and Seattles Best Coffee are all contributing to this event.
