Vision Statement

The City of South Lake Tahoe Parks & Recreation Department pledges to sustain the delivery of the broad-based parks, facilities, programs and services creating a sense of community, enabling a safe and secure environment, and enhancing South Lake Tahoe’s quality of life, by:  

  • Being responsive to the changing recreational needs of a diverse and growing community
  • Continue a citizen-driven and professional approach to provide safe, well designed and maintained facilities and programs
  • Providing responsible stewardship of human, fiscal, natural and historic resources
  • Maximizing community resources

Mission Statement 

The mission of the City of South Lake Tahoe Parks and Recreation Department is to provide for the health, inspiration and recreation opportunities for the people of South Lake Tahoe. The Parks and Recreation Department: 

“Creates Community Through Parks and People.” 

The City of South Lake Tahoe Parks and Recreation Department will achieve this mission through:

 
  • Advocacy to build awareness and educate about the positive impact and value of the profession.
  • Collaboration to develop useful relationships with other organizations to promote the impact and positive value of the profession.
  • Communicate effectively with members and nonmembers about the society, its mission and strategies, professional trends and information in a timely and useful manner.
  • Valuing its employees.
  • Research and Education to encourage research that measures the positive impact and value of the profession and to educate members about the information, technology and trends needed to implement quality programs and services.
  • Governance to identify organizational priorities, ensure desired outcomes are achieved and ensure that resources necessary for achievement are available and used efficiently.
  • Legislation to ensure state and federal legislation advances, rather than hinders, the delivery of park and recreation services and programs.
  • Sound fiscal stability of the society to ensure it has the resources to focus on the profession.
